View Full Version : Horses per acre?
Ok we'll be moving to Mississippi soon and we're thinking of getting a miniature horse. I've heard that the law there for keeping a normal horse is 1 acre per horse. Is it the same for miniature horses too? Please help!

I think your more likely to get by with it being a mini but here in FL it's usually 1 to 2 acres per horse.

I learnt that it was 2 acres for the first horse and 1 acre for every horse after that. But these are just guidelines really, for example, if your horse was prone to Laminitis in the spring you wouldn't put him out in 2+ acres of lush grass!! If you want to be sure that you're not going to get in any trouble by keeping your mini in under 1 acre then i would ring the Mississippi council (or whatever you call it in the states :p )

I have heard its 2 acres for your first horse and a half a acre for each horse after that. But right now I have 1 horse and 2 minis living on a half a acre with a 2 acre pasture they get to graze in for about 3 hourse if the weathers good and that works fine for them.
