Okay i've tried everything. I have a 16.3 Holsteiner Warmblood that I just can't keep in his stall. He bends the locks, moves obstacles from in front of the gate, and finally twisted the wooden door in half and broke it. He's not hot or fiesty, he has very good ground manners. He just gets tired of being cooped up in his stall sometimes and busts out. Anybody have any solid solutions for locking them in, gate hardware, etc.... I just don't want him to get out when someone isn't around and get into any trouble. ..... any suggestions, comments, concerns ?????

Sounds like he is very bored. You can buy some good toys out of Equine catalogs but I would make your own. Get an old pylon road construction cone or take an old plastic milk jug and fill it with small stones and hang it up in his stall. Make sure to put it up high enough that he won't get caught up in it. Good luck.

Are there other horses around, maybe he's lonely.

haha I had a horse once that could open just about anything! including round door knobs. here is what we had to do for him, we had to put like 6 latches all the way down to the bottom of the door along with some safety (horse and human proof) latches on the inside of the door as well. We then had to put a screen over the top section of his door so he couldnt stick his head out to unlatch all the locks. It did work though. Good luck.

I have a stallion, he has a large stall and a half door. I just run a single electric wire across the top half. It doesnt even have to be on for him to respect it.
