At the United States Dressage Federation (USDF) convention in Portland, OR, the USDF Board of Governors (BOG) approved an increase in membership dues, which will become effective January 1, 2004. This is the first dues increase for USDF Participating Members (PM) since 2000, for Group Members (GM) since 1998, and for PMs who are also GMs since 1992.
The new membership rates as of January 1, 2004 will be as follows:
GM and Intercollegiate/Interscholastic Member (IM) dues will be $17, paid by the Group-Membership or Intercollegiate/Interscholastic-Membership Organization to USDF.
PM dues will be $62.
Dues for a PM who is also a GM will be $47.
PMs joining or renewing a membership before January 1, 2004, can do so at the old (2003) membership rates of $50 per PM and $40 for a PM who is also a GM or IM, no matter when the membership is due for renewal. USDF is making this announcement several months ahead of time to give members an opportunity to renew at the old rates. (USDF is not responsible for incomplete, lost, or misdirected mail, faxes, or online transactions.)
The USDF BOG is made up of approximately 190 member-elected PM and GM delegates who vote on motions and act as the voice of the membership. During the BOG meeting at the 2002 USDF annual convention, the USDF Budget and Finance Committee brought forth a proposal to raise annual dues. Not only did the BOG support the dues increase proposed by the Budget and Finance Committee, the BOG went beyond the committee's recommendation, approving an additional $2 increase per membership category.
Currently, the cost to service GMs and IMs is estimated to be more than $33 per year, and the cost to service PMs is more than $72 per year. While membership dues only account for part of USDF's operating budget, this increase is necessary for USDF to continue to provide and expand programs and benefits for USDF members.
Details about the dues increase can be found in the BOG minutes in the March 2003 issue or USDF President Sam Barish's "Inside USDF" column in the February 2003 issue of USDF Connection.
