horse has fever and leg swelling

have a 3 year old horse,not broke. he has been fevered and now his legs are swollen up to his knees. he has not been down. he is off feed. not confined to stall . would be gratefull for any input. susie

All legs or just one? Sounds like some type of infection, spider bite or something else? If he has a fever butte might help bring the fever down, if not he might need to be on anti-biotics. You can wrap his legs with poultice to try to reduce the swelling, otherwise you really need to see a vet ASAP if the symptoms continue.

hi thanks for your reply. he is swollen in all four legs. he was running a fever of 106 for a couple of days. fear of equine infection deseases . vet out of town (of Course) i can get fever down to 103 but then up again .have been doing what you sugested just can not figure this out. susie

You need to find another vet ASAP if the fever still hasn't broken
