I'm thinking about switching from beet pulp and oats to Meadow Herb made by Spillers. I'm concerned there might be some sort of reaction with my 5 year old warmblood. Foundering or colic is the last thing I want!
Any advice doc?

I would give your vet a call and ask if a feed change and what feed change you are planning is wise as well as suggestions on how to implement the feed change. We have switched our horses from sweet feed to pellets and have had to make the switch in a small amount at a time over several days. Same is true when we have switched brands of hay. Our vet doesn't charge for phone questions which is a help. Good Luck :)
First of all, make sure that you do want to cahnge feeds. Consult your veterinarian, and as what his(or her) opinion is on the whole idea. Which is better for the horse?
Then, if and when you do decide to change to another feed, always do it slowly. Put her normal amount of feed in a bucket, take a handful out(of her regular feed), and put a handful in of the new feed. Do that for a few nights. Then take a couple handfuls out(of her regular feed) and put in a couple handfuls of the new feed. Do that for a few nights. ECT. Keep doing this...it might take a month...but its better to do it slowly than do a hige change in feed all at once and completely screw up the horses' stomach.
Best Wishes!
