I have a pony that I think might be foundering. The farrier says to put her on a diet. However, she lives on a pasture and only gets sweet feed about 3 times a week. How can I control her intake of food if she has free range of the pasture? Please give me some advice?

Since foundering can be caused by any number of things from food intake, to stress, to some other foreign substance in the environment it's best to quarantine them. Your best bet is to keep her in her stall as much as possible and monitor her food intake for a couple days. The problem could be in the pasture with some type of grass, weed, flower, tree, or pesticide/fertilizer. The main thing here is to get control of where she goes, what she does, and most importantly what she eats.
